Water and the Word: I Am Thirsty
John 19:28 After this, when Jesus knew that all was now finished, he said (in order to fulfill the scripture),
“I am thirsty.”
It wasn’t thirst
that fulfilled holy writ.
No, that sort of longing
is the kind of need
that’s supposed
to draw people together
in a concerted effort
to quench the void;
village to village,
neighbor to neighbor,
well to well,
bucket to bucket;
dipper to dipper;
garrafone to garrafone.
Matthew 25:25b
“I was thirsty
and you gave me
something to drink.”
“Let living water flow
for all God’s children.”
So let it be prayed,
so let it be practiced.
